Area of Recruitment

Our basic area of recruitment is the West Country and South Wales. However, we do have members in many parts of the country, including Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, Lancashire, Suffolk, Surrey and Yorkshire.

1644

Our Regiment is named after Colonel James Carr (also spelt Kerr) who was made Governor of Plymouth during July 1644, about the time Sir Richard Grenville attempted to blockade the town on the orders of Prince Maurice. Thankfully, the Earl of Essex arrived and Sir Richard beat a hasty retreat.

2001

The Regiment has recently seen a change in command following the promotion of Tim Baldwin to Commander of the Western Association. The Regiment has a broad spectrum of members in the form of families and individuals, but has one overriding common factor: we are a close-knit group of people.

Regimental Jollifications

The South Wales members of the Regiment meet once a month at the Horse and Jockey Inn at Twyn-yr-Odyn, behind the HTV studios at Culverhouse Cross, Cardiff. Date: 1st Monday of the month, time: 8pm. The Regiment itself also has a banquet once a year where we all wear our finest and enjoy a quiet civilised drink with some fine food prepared by the finest chef’s we can find (on Trader’s Row!).

Newsletter

Three times a year a Regimental newsletter – the Mercurius Politicus – is published. The newsletter contains articles on the English Civil War, letters from members, reports from the Officers, NCOs and Office Holders as well as humorous competitions and photographs.
